Position Summary:
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for all aspects of health care in the athletic environment. This includes prevention of athletic injuries; recognition and evaluation of injuries; management, treatment, and disposition of athletic injuries; rehabilitation of athletic injuries; organization and administration; and education and counseling of athletes, as outlined by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive care for all injuries and illnesses sustained by student-athletes.
- Monitor rehabilitation plans and progress.
- Assist in administering the athletic injury insurance policy and claims processing. Coordinate primary and college insurance information for medical providers.
- Assist in annually providing students and parents/guardians with written information regarding the college and NCAA policy.
- Assist in the maintenance of medical files for each student-athlete, including written records of all care rendered.
- Foster relationships among trainers, the team physician, other attending physicians, health services, coaches, athletes, and parents.
- Adhere to university policies, state and federal laws concerning Title IX, HIPPA, and FERPA policies and ensure compliance with provisions of the NCAA and our athletic conferences.
- Oversee the maintenance of athletic training facilities and equipment.
- Assist the head coaches with injury prevention and physical conditioning.
- Assist in special events and tournaments, championships, fundraisers, and/or clinics.
- Assist in coordinating drug prevention programs and drug testing requirements for student-athletes.
- Assist in the administration, usage, and updating of Healthy Roster for coaches, compliance, and emergencies.
- Monitor, review, and verify injury reports and medical records and take appropriate action as required. Ensure proper maintenance and confidentiality of all medical records and follow insurance processing and procedures.
- Assist in annually acquiring and maintaining primary insurance information for individual athletes.
- Provide assistance to monitor and verify insurance billings and advise athletic administration on all major injuries and treatment not covered by student-athlete’s insurance.
- Participates in Athletic Department programs and activities.

Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Current National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certification required.
- Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA or relevant governing body rules and regulations.
Skills and Abilities:
- Availability for evening and weekend travel and work as required is essential.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication abilities are essential.
- Preferred experience with collision sports
