Position: Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct.

Reports to: Assistant Vice President for Student Life

 Position Summary: Under administrative direction from the Assistant Vice President for Student Life, the Director of Residence Life provides visionary leadership and direction for the department; administers and manages the College’s student housing program; directs departmental operations; oversees the department budget; sets department goals; coordinates assessment efforts; and establishes learning outcomes and implementation strategies for the department.  This individual also serves as the Chief Student Conduct Officer for the College.   This is a 12-month position that requires on-campus living.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages the housing and residence life operations; provides fiscal management for department budget; supervises professional and support staff, ensuring efficient operations and programming, and ensures compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, standards, and laws.
  • Evaluates and assesses the College’s housing occupancy, retention, and projection trends; oversees the residential facilities to maintain a safe, secure, and healthy living environment; confirms that all room assignments and damage billings are completed and communicated to students.
  • Ensures the security and safety of students; responsible for crisis and risk management
  • Develops and oversees residential communities that utilize best practices in student development and research to create engaging, learning environments (including implementation of a residential curriculum that effectively considers all specialty housing)
  • Supports the development and implementation of  living-learning communities in the residence halls
  • Is responsible for ensuring employees are adequately trained with proper oversight to ensure that College policies and procedures, laws and regulations are followed, laws and regulations are adhered to, and that duties are properly segregated for all financial and personnel processes.
  • Serve as an on-call administrator for the campus
  • Represents Residence Life at College events, including Summer Orientation Days, New Student Orientation (NSO) and Open Houses
  • Acts as a clearinghouse for all student issues within the residence halls including interpersonal conflict, roommate mediations, student development and resident crises
  • Provides oversight for the housing and facilities aspects of summer camps and conferences
  • Negotiates financial agreements with outside vendors and related commercial enterprises
  • As Chief Student Conduct Officer, the Director monitors and maintains student conduct records; ensures compliance with both College policies and applicable laws and regulations; conducts investigations of; holds individual preliminary meetings/hearings related to student behavioral concerns; prepares educational material; assists with training for hearing officers and board members and assists with the preparation of compliance reports; reviews and updates policies and procedures on a regular basis.

 

Experience:

  • Master’s degree required;
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional residence life experience in increasingly advanced supervisory roles

 

Skills and Abilities:

  • On-campus living required; must be available to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, on-call
  • Knowledge of college student development (theory and practice)
  • Knowledge of residence life operations
  • Knowledge of Maxient software
  • Knowledge of Jenzabar
  • Commitment to supporting the needs of students from underrepresented populations
  • Experience implementing programs and services geared towards meeting the needs of students from underrepresented backgrounds
